I mean if that was his plan, leaving Negan alive does significantly increase his ability to get inside the structure, as he's now Negan's captive instead of a rogue agent who murdered him, but the whole gregory thing leading up to him getting stranded just feels. He looks like he's the best of a bad bunch. Rick and Shane's deteriorating relationship in S2 was incredible and it didn't need 20 cuts of random people shooting assault rifles at each other to be exciting. So I liked that this episode had actual meaningful dialogue, and conflict which wasn't people shooting guns at one another. They will defend Negan if they have to, they are loyal to him.
