Bastian does it so unintelligibly there were unable to put in what he said in the closed captioning. Along the way Bastian meets old friends, makes new ones, and learns lots of lessons along the way. While the whole book is a love-letter to fantasy and creativity, and in the first half the looming threat of the Nothing is a metaphor for loss of imagination in our society, the last act takes a darker turn: it's a cautionary tale against going too deep down the rabbit hole. It was fairly horrid, for a kid who'd gotten attached to the original at the perfect age. Instead of a nothingness that he faced in the first film a representation of people forgetting literature in favour of modern entertainment he faces the unnamed I guess a representation of people not caring about literature again and forgetting the fun times.
